Games
Chess Workshop

Pascal Rouleaux
Starting 5 years old
If the king of games is often present in schools it is because its benefits go beyond any doubt. Indeed, the game of chess conveys a number of positive values. In addition to offering, outside of school hours, a recreational play space, it constitutes, in itself, a real school of reflection, which the child can invest in. It has been proven that playing chess facilitates school learning, by introducing children to concentration, and by improving their memory 1.
Generally speaking, its playful approach helps stimulate creativity and contributes to psychological and intellectual development.
As part of the activities offered by the MJC of Mareil-Marly, the imagined progression allows you to move from the most basic themes - first contact with the pieces, learning how to move, mastering the basic rules - to more complex notions of strategy ; the program can be provided on request.
The activity is accessible from 5 years old – sometimes even, students, still in kindergarten, integrate without difficulty, some of them quickly being able to compete with their elders – and in certain years, the group of initiates also including adults – retirees or parents of children themselves registered – the intergenerational aspect of the activity being clear.
There is no losing, you either win or you learn.
